Pro-Shot Video: Phil Lesh & Very Special Friends Perform ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’

Last Friday, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh headlined The Apollo Theater in Harlem, which marked the first time a member of the legendary band performed at the legendary venue. Lesh teamed with an impressive array of guests during Don’t Tell Me This Country Ain’t Got No Heart: A Benefit For Voter Participation, a concert put together by HeadCount and impresario Peter Shapiro. Friday’s benefit saw Phil joined by a lineup cleverly referred to as “Very Special Friends.” The stage was loaded by the end of the second set to include the bassist, The Terrapin Family Band, Eric Krasno, Nicki Bluhm, Robert Randolph and the Harlem Gospel Choir. Krasno led the ensemble on a memorable version of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” as the penultimate song of the closing frame. Watch video of the Dylan cover below:
