During their expansive, ongoing fall tour, Twiddle made a stop at Athens, GA’s Georgia Theatre a week ago, burning down the legendary Southern venue on a Monday night. The highlight of the show came during the first set when the Vermont four-piece threw a curveball and performed a new, unreleased song, “River Drift”.
The new song was originally penned by Twiddle’s frontman and guitarist Mihali Savoulidis. After debuting “River Drift” during one of his solo shows last year, the tune has made regular appearances during Mihali’s own solo sets. However, during a performance at Lake George, New York’s Adirondac Independence Music Festival at the beginning of September, Twiddle wowed audiences by performing the tune for the first time during the first set.
With Mihali Savoulidis on acoustic guitar and leading the way on vocals, during the group’s recent stop in Georgia, Twiddle gracefully worked through “River Drift”. The heartfelt, moving rendition of the new song was used as a launching pad into more typical Twiddle fare, with the group seamlessly transitioning into PLUMP: Chapter One‘s “White Light” and Twiddle’s longstanding cover of ALO‘s “BBQ”. After the segment of three well-jammed songs, the group returned to “River Drift” to complete the giant sandwich.

Earlier this week, Twiddle announced that they will team with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh for an event dubbed Phil-O-Ween at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, on October 31st. Phil and Twiddle have a longstanding history performing together, with recent collaborations at The Peach Festival, Red Rocks, and a series of joint concerts with Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band and Midnight North under the banner “Unbroken Train.”
The three-set Halloween celebration will kick off with GEM, a trio whose name is derived from the first initials of its members: Midnight North’s Grahame Lesh and Elliot Peck and Twiddle’s Mihali Savoulidis. Next, Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band will perform a standalone set, before Lesh and Twiddle team up to debut a new, collaborative project, Phiddle, to close out the evening.
Tickets for Phil-O-Ween with Twiddle go on sale this Friday, September 28th, at 12 pm. For more info, or to grab your tickets when they go on sale, head . For a list of Twiddle’s upcoming tour dates and ticketing information, head to the band’s website.
