Watch Phish’s Page McConnell Join Tenacious D In Vermont, On This Day In 2001

165

Here’s a nice crossover for fans of Phish and Tenacious D: pianist Page McConnell lent his talents to the Tenacious D debut album. Released in 2001, McConnell appears throughout the guest-laden album, which also features Dave GrohlWarren Fitzgerald, and Steven Shane McDonald.

Three days after the album’s release, Tenacious D hit the beloved Vermont venue Higher Ground and welcomed out the illustrious keyboardist. Thus, on September 28th, 2001, Jack Black, Kyle Gass, and Page McConnell all performed together for the first and only time. Led by the Tenacious duo, the three played a comical cover of Queen’s “Flash,” their original song “Wonderboy” from the album, and the medley of Beatles songs featured at the end of Abbey Road.

Yeah, it’s as great as it sounds. Enjoy the video below, courtesy of YouTube user cleantones:

McConnell will join his more traditional bandmates, Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, and Mike Gordon, for a four-night run at Madison Square Garden to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
