All Of Phish & Dave Matthews Band Join Forces Onstage, On This Day In 1994 [Full Audio]

166

Two of the most successful groups to come out of the “jam band scene” over the last few decades are, undoubtedly, Phish and Dave Matthews Band. Both bands have been touring forces for many years, but in 1994, the Dave Matthews and company were still cutting their jib as newcomers to the scene. Phish had been around for eleven years at that time, amassing something of a cult following with their relentless dedication to the road. For a handful of shows in 1994, these two bands came together—including one show that happened exactly 24 years ago today.

As Dave Matthews Band gained popularity in the Southeast, the group was recruited to open up for Phish at the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham, AL. While there have been many crossovers between the two bands over the years, this one assuredly takes the cake. Phish’s encore opened with a major drums jam featuring Phish’s Jon Fishman and DMB’s Carter Beauford. Before long, every member of both bands was on stage, pouring their hearts into a version of Daniel Lanois‘ song “The Maker”. Fortunately, we can listen to a great recording of this jam session below, courtesy of DMB Discography.

The full Phish show is no slouch either. Opening up with “Wilson” and featuring big jams on “2001”, “Runaway Jim”, and “You Enjoy Myself -> Catapult -> You Enjoy Myself”, this one was a show for the ages. Check out full audio below:
