Railroad Earth Honors Andy Goessling At Hangtown Music Festival 2018: Photos, Video & Audio

The 2018 installment of Hangtown Music Festival began this past Thursday, October 25 and ran through Sunday, October 28 at El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California. Host band Railroad Earth performed three times over the course of the event. The varied lineup also featured Jon Stickley Trio, Billy Strings, Pink Talking Fish, The Infamous Stringdusters, Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real, Kung Fu, Trampled By Turtles, Ron Artis II & The Truth, Melvin Seals & JGB, The Claypool Lennon Delirium and more. Hangtown also hosted tributes to The Allman Brothers Band from Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and Tom Petty from Keller Williams’ PettyGrass featuring The HillBenders.

Railroad Earth helped open the festival on Thursday with a set in the Hangin’ Hall. Multi-instrumentalist and co-founding member Andy Goessling passed away just a few weeks prior and frontman Todd Sheaffer addressed Goessling’s death at one point during the set, yet a full tribute would come two days later. Keyboardist Matt Slocum and banjo/flute player Erik Yates rounded out the RRE lineup on Thursday. Lindsay Pruett sat-in on a sequence of “Birds Of America” > “Like A Buddha” as part of the band’s first set of the festival. Then, on Saturday, Joe Craven read a stirring tribute to Andy before Railroad Earth took the stage with Slocum. Craven went on to sit-in for “Drunken Sailor” and “Fisherman’s Blues.” Matt Slocum also played keys throughout the band’s Sunday finale, which featured guest appearances from Andy Falco and Chris Pandolfi of The Infamous Stringdusters. Falco added to “Seven Story Mountain” and “Dandelion Wine,” while Pandolfi joined the group for their “Give That Boy A Hand” encore.
