One of the original Funkateers, Joel ‘Razor Sharp’ Johnson has rejoined the mothership.  Well known for his amazing keyboard work with Bootsy Collins and the entire P Funk crew, Johnson will be loved and remembered for years to come by the entire funk community.

Most recently Johnson has been touring the country with Freekbass, and their recent video has Johnson and Rico Smooth prominently in the performance:

I had the pleasure of meeting Johnson a couple of times at Wormtown and Strangecreek and he could not have been nicer.  A religious man, a funk icon, and a genuinely beautiful human being, Johnson may  not be a household name to many, but his work is familiar to millions.

Freekbass released this statement this morning, “My heart is broken this morning. The world lost one of the most gentle and talented souls ever to walk this planet. This man taught me so much musically and living life to its fullest. I love you Razor and the heavens and the universe are now singing like never before. ⚡❤⚡ RIP #RazorSharpJohnson

Johnson passed today after a short hospital stay.  He had been having cardiac problems and a procedure meant to resolve the issues was not successful.

The heavenly P Funk crew is forming quite the band with the loss of P Nut, Bernie Worrell, Catfish Collins and now Johnson over the last few years.

Funk it up, sir.
