Tedeschi Trucks Band Welcomes Jimmy Herring & Doyle Bramhall II At Beacon Theatre Opener

Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off their eighth annual Beacon Theatre run on Friday night. The rock and soul ensemble presented a two-set “Evening With” show to get the six-night residency underway. As has become the tradition with their Beacon stands the band welcomed a pair of longtime friends as Jimmy Herring helped close out the second set and Doyle Bramhall II joined them for their encore.

Tedeschi Trucks Band got their night going at the historic venue on Manhattan’s Upper West Side with a take on Jimmy Cliff’s “Sitting In Limbo.” The multi-piece band would focus on material from their own catalog for the majority of the night offering up takes on the likes of “Do I Looked Worried,” “Anyhow,” “Let Me Get By” and “Made Up My Mind.” After a serving up Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I Pity The Fool” late in the second set, Derek & Susan would welcome Herring. The current Widespread Panic guitarist offered up his talents on a pair of familiar tunes from his tenure in the Allman Brothers Band. With Herring in tow, the augmented ensemble dug in “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” delivering a 20+ minute version on the jam vehicle. The guitar-slinger then stuck around for a rousing take “Blue Sky” to close out the frame.

When the band emerged for their encore they were joined by Bramhall II. The singer-songwriter first lent a hand on Bob Dylan’s “Going Going Gone” from Planet Waves, while they looked to “Get What You Deserve” from the Derek Trucks Band catalog bring things home on night one.
