The Disco Biscuits returned to the road on Friday for a two-night stand at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Philadelphia-based band focused their attention almost exclusively on material from when drummer Allen Aucoin joined the band in 2005 onward, reaching into their songbook for a number of rarities, bust outs and deep cuts.
The jamtronica pioneers got their seamless first set off the ground with “Uber Glue,” dusting off the tune for the first time since their 2016 New Year’s run and for just sixth time since 2010. “Caterpillar” followed as the quartet looked to the Marc Brownstein/Aron Magner side-project Electron next, serving up their second ever rendering of “Miracles.” An unfished take on “Air Song” was used as the centerpiece of the opening frame as The Disco Biscuits then worked their way back through the previous three songs they had played in the first half of the set with “Miracles” > “Uber Glue” > “Caterpillar.”
“Rivers” got the second frame of the night going. It was just the fifth take on the tune since it was revived last year after sitting on the shelf since 2010. The four-piece continued to reach for some lesser-played material as just their 33rd ever “Catalyst” kicked off a segued-filled run that would take them through the rest of the stanza. “The Great Abyss” came ahead of just the second “Boom Shanker” since 2010. The old-school classic “Mr. Don,” the lone song of the night from before 2003, closed out the set. The parade of deep cuts continued in the encore as The Disco Biscuits brought their evening to an end with “Portal To An Empty Head” delivering the Brownstein-penned tune for the sixth time since 2013.
