A year ago today the world lost Tom Petty. Since the iconic musician’s passing, there has been no shortage of tributes from all corners of the music world. Today, The Lumineers have shared the one of the latest on the one-year anniversary of Petty’s death with their cover of “Walls” as a charity single to benefit MusiCares.
The folk-stomp act had been playing the song from the She’s The One soundtrack live since March of last year, even recording the tune as a digital exclusive for their appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “Tom Petty is a musical hero of mine, and ‘Walls’ is such an incredible song,” shared the band’s frontman Wesley Schultz. “When I got married, my wife walked down the aisle to the song.” All proceeds from the song will benefit MusiCares, which provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need.
