The “financial enablers” of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro are profiting from the sale of resources belonging to that country’s people, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Friday. The statement appears targeted at Russia and China, which have been major creditors helping to keep the Maduro regime afloat in exchange for oil and a stake in assets like the US-based oil company Citgo, a subsidiary of the state oil firm PDVSA. Mnuchin and 15 other finance ministers agreed to work to “mobilize additional resources” to help address the humanitarian crisis that has driven 2.6 million Venezuelans to flee the country.
