Ready or not, the 2018 holiday season has arrived. In the coming days and weeks there will be holiday parties, gift buying and giving, visits to sit on Santa Claus’ lap and all of the other traditions that come out this time of year. This edition of Saturday Stream presents a Spotify Playlist of Christmas and holiday music that was released in 2018.
The playlist begins with a number of singles that have come out this year, including the recently issued collection issued by Spotify featuring Jim James covering Dr. Dog and The Wood Brothers backing Amy Helm on a cover of The Band’s “Christmas Must Be Tonight.” Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Anderson .Paak and John Legend were also among those who contributed to the Spotify Singles holiday edition. The playlist also showcases holiday songs released in 2018 by the late Aretha Franklin, Sufjan Stevens Khruangbin and The Minus 5 with Ben Gibbard.
In addition to his Spotify track, Legend also issued an entire holiday album featuring guest appearances by Stevie Wonder and Esperanza Spalding. Other complete albums included in the playlist was renowned guitarist Eric Clapton’s first foray into the genre, along with records by Rodney Crowell, Delicate Steve, Old 97’s, The Mavericks and The Monkees. There’s also Tyler, the Creator’s contributions to the new Grinch soundtrack and William Shatner’s eccentric guest-filled album that features Iggy Pop, Billy Gibbons, Judy Collins, Henry Rollins and more.
