Bob Weir And Wolf Bros Welcome John Kadlecik In Washington DC

91

Bob Weir and Wolf Bros resumed their debut tour at the Warner Theatre in Washington D.C. on Monday night. The trio was joined by a special guest for the fourth show in a row, as Weir’s former Furthur band mate John Kadlecik added to a pair of songs in the second set as well as the encore.

Kadlecik’s guest appearance came after Warren Haynes and Kenny Brooks sat-in during the band’s Capitol Theatre run and Mikaela Davis helped out in Syracuse. Weir, bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane opened with an extended “Jack Straw” and then followed a cover of Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried” with “Lay My Lily Down” from Bob’s Blue Mountain album. Last night’s first set also included Dead songs “Loser,” “West L.A. Fadeaway” and “U.S. Blues” plus “Josephine” from Weir’s Bobby & The Midnites project and covers of John Phillips’ “Me And My Uncle” and Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman.”

Bob Weir And Wolf Bros had a treat in store to open the second set, as they presented the tour debut of Bobby Darin’s “Artificial Flowers.” Weir played “Artificial Flowers” a number of times at solo shows and with RatDog. Kadlecik emerged soon thereafter for long and fruitful versions of “Playing In The Band” and “Scarlet Begonias.” The trio followed the D.C. area resident’s guest appearance with the RatDog staple “Two Djin” and beloved Grateful Dead classic “I Need A Miracle.” Bobby then led Don and Jay through Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” ahead of a set-closing “Throwing Stones.” John Kadlecik was on hand for an encore featuring “Playing In The Band Reprise” and “Touch Of Grey.” The tour continues tonight at The Fillmore Philadelphia.
