Iconic musician Elton John is currently in the middle of an extensive farewell tour that is expected to last through 2021. John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour includes material from throughout his career over the course of two hours, while a new commercial starring the 71-year-old musician sums up his legendary career in an emotional 140 seconds. John Lewis & Partners reportedly paid Elton $6.5 million to spend four days shooting footage for the wonderful commercial.
The commercial starts with Elton John performing his hit “Your Song” at a piano. Next comes what appears to be a series of actors portraying Elton at various stages of his historic career in reverse chronological order. Viewers see John performing at arenas, stadiums, on a plane and at a school auditorium. All the while, different recordings of “Your Song” from multiple eras serve as a soundtrack. The advert ends with a young Elton, or Reginald Dwight as he was known at the time, receiving the gift of a piano from his grandmother on Christmas.
