Ghost Light Loads Higher Ground Concert With Debuts: Full Show Audio

247

Ghost Light unveiled the second installment of their Full Show Friday series of official live recordings. The quintet shared audio via the Live Music Archive from their November 17 performance at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vermont which featured five debuts including an original, two American Babies songs and a pair of covers.

Guitarists Tom Hamilton and Raina Mullen, keyboardist Holly Bowling, bassist Steve Lyons and drummer Scotty Zwang kicked off their show at Higher Ground with a 15-minute “Best Kept Secret” that went unfinished before it bled into the band’s debut cover of The Kinks’ “Living On A Thin Line.” Ghost Light fit a take on “Streets Of Brooklyn” from Hamilton’s American Babies project within the Kinks cover and then went with “Boy” from Tom’s days in Brothers Past. The frame ended with original “Isosceles” and the American Babies gem “Joeline.”

Ghost Light displayed their improvisational prowess by opening the second set in Vermont with a free-flowing jam that led into the debut of an original entitled “Doorway To A Silent Chamber.” The new song spanned well over 20 minutes. Next came the funky original “Diamond Eyes.” Three Ghost Light debuts followed before the end of “Diamond Eyes” including a cover of “Black Star” from Radiohead’s The Bends LP as well as “Weight Of The World” and “Old Fashioned” from the American Babies’ repertoire. Ghost Light brought the second set to a close by bridging “Diamond Eyes” and the conclusion of “Best Kept Secret” with a jam and then went with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up In Blue” as the encore.
