On Saturday night, November 10th, Lil Wayne joined the cast of Saturday Night Live and host Liev Schreiber as the evening’s musical guest. Following in the wake of the release of his long-anticipated new LP, Tha Carter V, Weezy performed a pair of tracks from the album with special guests and lent some rhymes to a tongue-in-cheek music video parody segment about asking for consent and respecting women’s choices.

For his two customary live performance slots as the show’s musical guest, Weezy tapped a pair of special guest performers. First, the New Orleans native welcomed singer-songwriter Halsey to add vocals on Tha Carter V track “Can’t Be Broken”. Later in the show, Lil Wayne returned to the stage with lauded producer and frequent collaborator Swizz Beatz for a performance of Tha Carter V single “Uproar”. In addition to his regularly scheduled live performance, Wayne also appeared on the episode in a pre-canned music video parody sketch. In the video, titled “Permission”, fictional duo Booty Kings (played by cast members Kenan Thompson and Chris Redd) head to the club to get some “booty,” setting up a familiar hip-hop music video scenario. However, in an oh-so-very-2018 twist, the fictional rappers’ advances on the females in the club are stopped in their tracks when the women tell them they’re not interested. The women are thoroughly surprised that the rappers actually respect their wishes not to be bothered—an appropriate riff on the times in which we live.
The song goes on to feature guest verses from both Lil Wayne and Future about how you need respect women’s wishes, an appropriate send-up of the often-misogynistic nature of modern hip-hop—Wayne included. It also features a mumbled cameo from another fictional rapper, Uncle Butt (played by Pete Davidson), who tries to contribute to the song but is mostly inaudible thanks to his giant, gratuitous grill.
