Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band Team With Jimmy Herring & Karl Denson In Port Chester

162

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh continued a three-night “Phil-O-Ween” run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Thursday night. Phil led The Terrapin Family Band along with special guests Jimmy Herring and Karl Denson at The Cap.

The Terrapin Family Band lineup for the evening featured Phil on bass, Jason Crosby on keyboards, vocalist Elliott Peck, multi-instrumentalist Karl Denson, drummer Nathan Graham and the quadruple guitar attack of Herring, Grahame Lesh, Alex Koford and Ross James. Last night’s show began with the early Dead rarity “Mason’s Childen” and continued with Peck on lead vocals for “New Speedway Boogie.” Phil had his first chance of the night in the spotlight for “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo,” which gave way to a Koford-sung “Wharf Rat.” Ross James then sang “Throwing Stones” before the band presented a cover of CSNY’s “Ohio.” The first set concluded with the pairing of “Ship Of Fools” and “Unbroken Chain.”

While the group opened the second set with “Help On The Way” and “Slipknot!,” the usual “Franklin’s Tower” was replaced with “Let It Grow.” Phil and Elliott then teamed to sing “Mountains Of Moon.” Next came a “Scarlet Begonias” that gave way to a “Terrapin Station” suite featuring multiple portions of “Jack O’Roses.” Thursday’s second set ended with “Uncle John’s Band” and “In The Midnight Hour.” Phil Lesh, The Terrapin Family Band, Jimmy Herring and Karl Denson covered CSNY’s “Almost Cut My Hair” as the encore.
