The Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein‘s new Star Kitchen band began their first tour on Thursday night at Gypsy Sally’s in Washington D.C. Star Kitchen was joined by surprise guest Eddie Roberts for a portion of last night’s show.
Star Kitchen features Brownstein, drummer Marlon Lewis (Lauryn Hill, John Legend), keyboardist Rob Marscher (Addison Groove Project, Matisyahu) and guitarist Danny Mayer (Eric Krasno Band, Danny Mayer Trio). Roberts emerged for covers of “Soul Power” by James Brown and Kool & The Gang’s “Let The Music Take Your Mind.” The New Mastersounds guitarist also helped out on the “Jan Jan” (Grant Green) encore. Tonight, the quartet will be joined by a number of guests at The Ardmore Music Hall near Philadelphia. Star Kitchen plays Electric Haze in Worcester on Saturday before bringing the run to a close at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on Sunday with guests Eric Krasno, Chris Bullock and Mike “Maz” Maher.
