Tom Hamilton Joins Bob Weir And Wolf Bros In Philadelphia

Bob Weir and Wolf Bros were joined by Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Tom Hamilton last night at The Fillmore Philadelphia. The trio expanded to a quartet at the start of the second set and again during the evening’s encore.

Guitarist Bob Weir, bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane began the show with “Cassidy.” Set one also pulled from Bobby’s solo album Blue Mountain via “Gonesville,” Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” and Grateful Dead staples such as Howlin’ Wolf’s “Little Red Rooster,” “Easy Answers,” “Loose Lucy” and “Lost Sailor” > “Saint Of Circumstance.”

Hamilton joined the group after setbreak, first sitting-in on the traditional “Peggy-O.” Hamilton stuck around for a subsequently expansive “Bird Song.” The trio was then left onstage for the tour’s first performance of the Phil Lesh-written Grateful Dead gem “Passenger.” The set continued with “The Music Never Stopped,” followed by The Temptations’ “Shakey Ground,” latter-day Dead ballad “Standing On The Moon” and a closing “China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider” pairing. Hamilton came back out to add guitar and vocals to the encore rendition of “Ripple.”
