Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy made his debut as an author with the release of Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back) – A Memoir Of Recording And Discording With Wilco, Etc. earlier this week. The singer-songwriter shared a Spotify Playlist of the songs and bands mentioned in his first-ever book.
The playlist features several songs by Wilco as well as a pair of Tweedy solo tracks, including “Let’s Go Rain” from his upcoming album WARM. Jeff also appears on a track by his Tweedy project with his son Spencer Tweedy and with Jim O’Rourke and Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche on a song by Loose Fur. Jeff also included a song by his pre-Wilco outfit with Jay Farrar – the alt-country trailblazers Uncle Tupelo. Jeff’s songwriting is further on display via the inclusion of Mavis Staples’ recording of “If All I Was Was Black.”
The rest of the playlist is made up of other acts that influenced Jeff in one form or another since his childhood growing up in Belleville, Illinois. The wide-ranging collection features such disparate acts as Captain Beefheart (who Jeff played for his sons when they were little) to The Monkees (who partly inspired the creation of Wilco’s The Loft recording studio). You’ll also find cuts by Bob Dylan, Minutemen, David Bowie, The Fugs, Gang Of Four, Ramones, The Replacements, Dinosaur Jr., Blondie, Glen Campbell, The Byrds and others. There is a pair of tracks featuring recordings of steam locomotive trains (Jeff’s father worked on railyards and would listen to similar recordings at home). Stream the Spotify Playlist below:
