In 2019, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones will celebrate their 30th anniversary with what a press release calls “the Flecktones’ most extensive tour in years.” Full dates for the run will be revealed “after the new year” as per the statement.
Banjo wiz Bela Fleck, bassist Victor Wooten, multi-instrumentalist Howard Levy and percussionist Roy “Futureman” Wooten released their self-titled debut album in 1989. The album was nominated for the Best Contemporary Jazz Album Grammy. Levy left the band in 1992 but has returned for their last few tours.
As for now there are just a few Flecktones dates confirmed. The band will perform at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado as part of the inaugural Béla Fleck Friends & Family show on May 30. In addition, the quartet will play at next year’s Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Stay tuned for additional announcements from the Flecktones.
