Live From Here With Chris Thile brought its 2018 season to a close on Saturday night at New York City’s Town Hall. The holiday-tinged episode featured Rosanne Cash, comedian Jim Breuer and chamber orchestra group The Knights. During the broadcast Chris Thile and the Live From Here house band offered up a take on Vince Guaraldi’s classic instrumenal “Linus & Lucy.” The variety show has shared pro-shot video of the performance.
The tune, which first appeared on the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s album 1964 Jazz Impressions Of A Boy Named Charlie Brown and more famously featured in 1965 animated special A Charlie Brown Christmas, was played as the show went to a station break. What audience of the broadcast didn’t get to hear was Thile, basssist Mike Elizondo, guitarist Chris Eldridge, fiddle player Alex Hargreaves, pianist Jeff Babko and drummer Ted Poor stretching the song out and giving its a jazzy, bluegrass treatment. Additionally, Thile mimicked the Peanuts characters dance moves. Watch Thile & Co.’s take on “Linus & Lucy” below:
