Dave Matthews Band brought his Fall Tour north of the border on Saturday for a gig at Centre Bell in Montreal. The Charlottesville-born band worked in a pair of tour debuts and once again performed a partial take on the rarity “Kill The Preacher” during their 21-song night.
“Don’t Drink The Water” from 1998’s Before These Crowded Streets got Dave Matthews Band’s night going in The City of Saints. From there “That Girl Is You” from their latest studio effort came in between a pair of fan-favorites – “Seek Up” and ” Satellite.” The tour debut of the much-beloved, old-school tune “Song That Jane Likes” followed. A song later Dave Matthews & Co. worked in a partial version of “Kill The Preacher” for the second time on this run. The true rarity has only been played in full six times with the last coming back in 2015.
The rest of the 19-song main set was highlighted by takes on “Lover Lay Down,” “Do You Remember” and “Warehouse.” For the second night in a row, the band also delivered the seasonally-appropriate “Christmas Song,” which was revived on Friday night after sitting on the shelf since 2014. A pair of selections from Under the Table and Dreaming closed out the set as the tour debut of “Rhyme & Reason” came ahead of “Ants Marching.” “You & Me” and the pairing of “Pantala Naga Pampa” and “Rapunzel” were tapped as encore selections.
