Ghost Light Shares Full-Show Audio From Impressive Fall Tour Finale [Listen]

282

Ghost Light has given their fans an early Christmas gift by sharing the full-show audio from their fall tour finale at Otus Supply in Ferndale, Michigan back on December 8th. The performance was the last of a three-and-a-half week fall run which featured the relatively new rock/jam band introducing themselves to music fans across the eastern U.S. with a mix of acoustic sets, original debuts, and classic rock covers.

Their final tour stop at the Otus Supply saw and heard guitarists Tom Hamilton and Raina Mullen, pianist Holly Bowling, drummer Scotty Zwang, and bassist Steve Lyons providing attendees at the Michigan venue with a mix of covers and originals over two jam-heavy sets and an encore, which is now available for obsessive listening over the holiday break.

The five-song first set started with one of the band’s lively new originals, “Keep Your Hand to Yourself”, a swinging, guitar-friendly tune that featured Hamilton riffing away with help from his auto-wah pedal. It didn’t take long for the band to find their collaborative groove as the audience is heard giving them roaring applause towards the end of Hamilton’s first long solo of the evening. The 11-minute opener was surpassed by a 15-minute cover of The Kinks‘ “Living on a Thin Line”, which included soft and energizing jams as well as a tease of American Babies‘ “Streets of Brooklyn”, which they would revisit later on in the evening. “Living on a Thin Line” transitioned right into a cover of “Weight of the World” for a 10-minute live rendition of the American Babies original before returning to “Keep Your Hands to Yourself”. The first set concluded with another cover, this time of “Boy” by Brothers Past.

The quintet returned to the stage to begin the second half of the show with everyone chiming in vocally to share the lyrics on “Everybody Knows”, which featured some wonderful back-and-forth instrumental play between Hamilton and Bowling. The nearly-20-minute rendition of the Leonard Cohen original fluctuated in dynamic levels to go with some great guitar work before the familiar power chord intro to another band original, “Best Kept Secret” suddenly took the show into an entirely new direction. The second set continued with a pair of American Babies covers in “Swimming At Night” > “Streets of Brooklyn”, before slowing things down to their eerie original ballad, “Doorway to a Silent Chamber”. The psychedelic theme of the second set kept going with a cover of Radiohead‘s “There There”, and eventually revisiting “Doorway to a Silent Chamber” with a Reprise to close things out.

Ghost Light returned to the stage following some band introductions to close their show and tour with a classic rock cover of Derek and the Dominoes‘ “Keep On Growing”, before diving back into “Best Kept Secret” from the second set. The entire performance can be listened to in the full audio stream below.
