On Sunday, moe. kicked off their two-night New Year’s Run at the Kodak Center in Rochester, New York. The jamband stalwarts unearthed “Another One Gone” as they began to put a close on an eventful 2018 that saw them return to the road after an extended hiatus while bassist Rob Derhak fought a victorious battle against cancer.
The five-piece act got things going in The Flower City with “Bearsong.” From there, the Buffalo-born band dug in on a seamless stretch that saw them string together “Haze,” “So Long” and “Where Does The Time Go?” The quintet then offered up “Again And Again.” It marked the second time the tune has been played since 2013 and its 30th time overall. The pairing of “Mar-DeMa” and “Lazarus” closed out the opening frame.
“The Road” was tapped to open up their second stanza. The biggest surprise of the evening followed as moe. dusted off “Another One Gone.” The track from 2007’s The Conch had been sitting on the shelf since March 10, 2010. Setlist staple “Hi & Lo” jumpstarted a jam-filled run with “Kyle’s Song” and “Kids” following. “Opium” came ahead of a set-closing take on the longtime fan-favorite “Rebubula.” moe. brought the opening night of their New Year’s stand to end with a take on Pink Floyd’s “Time.”
