After taking 2018 off from touring, Louisville rock band My Morning Jacket has announced their return to the stage, including two nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO (August 2nd and 3rd, 2019) and one night at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York (August 10th, 2019). According to the band’s official announcement, “These are the only planned live performances of 2019.”
My Morning Jacket should be well rested and ready to rock by the time they take the stage in early August. The band has not played a show in the U.S. since New Year’s Eve 2017, although they did head down to the Dominican Republic to perform at the fourth year of One Big Holiday back in March.
The individual members of My Morning Jacket kept busy while the band took a break from touring this year. Frontman Jim James released a pair of solo albums in 2018 with Uniform Distortion and its companion LP Uniform Clarity, in addition to hosting on his own “Tiny Desk Concert” on NPR. James also teamed up with HeadCount for a brief college tour focused on both music and political discussion ahead of the Midterm Elections back in the fall. The band’s lead guitarist and sax player, Carl Broemel, also put out a new solo album earlier this year titled Wished Out.
There was no update from the band relating to when fans can expect to hear some new music or a new album to go with Monday’s concert announcement. My Morning Jacket hasn’t released a new studio project since 2015’s The Waterfall, so fans should keep their ears open for some new music arriving at some point in 2019, or maybe sooner!
