Phil Lesh Goes ‘Under Cover’ At Terrapin Crossroads: Full Set Video

131

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh has been playing a run of themed concerts at Terrapin Crossroads’ Harmony Tent in San Rafael, California over the past few weeks. The latest show took place last night featuring Phil and guitarists Ross James, Stu Allen and Alex Koford for a performance dubbed “Under Cover.”

The quartet may not have played any Grateful Dead originals, but they performed a number of songs the Dead covered over the years with a few bonus cuts. Allen led the group through the traditional “Don’t Ease Me In” before passing the baton to James for Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up In Blue.” Koford fronted Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” with sweet harmonies from Allen. Phil then had his first in the spotlight as he sang “Peggy-O.” Next up was a take on Bob Dylan’s “Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again” featuring Stu Allen on lead vocals.

One of the biggest surprises of the evening came in the form of a Ryan Adams cover. Alex Koford was tapped to front the group on “Rescue Blues” from Ryan’s 2002 album Gold. Next, Phil Lesh returned to the mic for “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” by Bob Dylan. Then, Ross James led the ensemble through “Sweet Jane” by The Velvet Underground. For the finale, the four-piece went the blues route with a “Crossroads” closer. Watch video of the whole set captured by Deadheadland:
