The Disco Biscuits kicked off their four-night hometown New Year’s Run on Friday with the first of four shows at The Fillmore Philadelphia. The jamtronica act stuck almost exclusively to vintage material that was debuted in 2001 or prior along with a handful of bust outs that included the first “Haleakala Crater” in fourteen years.
The four-piece reached all the way back “Basis For A Day” to get their four-night stand going. The band would drop “Crystal Ball” in its midst before returning back to the track from 1996’s Encephalous Crime. The Biscuits paired two songs that had been played since December 4 of last year to close out the opening frame. First up came “Stone” which segued into “The Devil’s Waltz,” it marked just the sixth time both tunes had been played since 2009.
The foursome tapped “Hope” to open up the second set of the night as they sandwiched an inverted “Highwire” in the middle of it. An unfinished take on “7-11” followed as the band busted out Tchaikovsky’s “Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy” for the first time since last year’s New Year’s run. The biggest surprise of the night followed as The Disco Biscuits closed out the stanza by unearthing “Haleakala Crater.” The song from They Missed the Perfume had gone missing since December 27, 2004, and played for just the 29th time ever. The Biscuits brought the night to an end with “Floes” as their lone encore song. Watch full show pro-shot video below:
