As we head into the homestretch of the holiday season, The Flaming Lips are the latest act to offer up some Christmastime cheer. The psychedelic-rock act has shared a video featuring their takes on a pair of Yuletide classics, “Peace On Earth” and “Little Drummer Boy” as on acid-drenched homage to David Bowie and Bing Crosby’s unlikely collaborative 1977 version.
Dubbed “Christmas Of The Future” the clip was directed by Wayne Coyne and George Salisbury and filmed at Coyne’s Pink Floor Studios in Oklahoma City. The video features The Flaming Lips touring lineup of Coyne, Steven Drozd, Michael Ivins, Derek Brown, Jake Ingalls, Matt Kirksy and Nicholas Ley dressed as futuristic alien knights. Additionally, The Flaming Lips have announced that they will team with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra to perform their 1999 album The Soft Bulletin in its entirety at Denver’s Boettcher Concert Hall on Friday, February 22.
