Portland, Oregon’s Fruition closed out 2018 with a pair of shows at the Boulder Theater on December 28 and 29. This year was the first in a long time the band didn’t play on New Year’s Eve. Fruition loaded the Boulder concerts with rarities, guest appearances and debuts.
The action started this past Friday night with a first set that featured a number of guest spots. Will Trask added percussion on “To The Band,” “Above The Line,” “The Way That I Do” and a cover of Elephant Revival’s “The Garden.” Darren Garvey also contributed percussion to the final three songs of the frame, while Elephant Revival’s own Daniel Rodriguez joined in on “The Garden.”
Friday’s second set included a recently debuted cover of John Prine’s “Summer’s End” and the band’s first-ever version of John Lennon’s “Watching The Wheels.” In addition, Fruition unveiled an original dubbed “Alone Together.” The group went on to end the evening with a “Meet Me On The Mountain” encore.
Fruition delivered a career-spanning performance to end the year on Saturday night in Boulder. The first set featured such favorites as “There She Was,” “Wastin’ Away” and “Whippoorwill.” Megan Letts of Mama Magnolia helped the band close out the set with a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “Love Sneakin’ Up On You.” Later in the night, the group premiered an original titled “Poison” and then performed Elephant Revival’s “Grace Of A Woman” with Rodriguez, Letts and Arthur Lee Land. Arthur also contributed to “Let’s Take It Too Far,” while Megan and Lewi Longmire helped out on a debut cover of Jim James’ “Over & Over.” The night came to a close with a cover of “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers. Fruition kicks off their first tour of the year tonight in Kansas City and will remain on the road through an appearance on Jam Cruise and beyond.
