Kevin Parker Gives An Update On New Tame Impala Album

118

As Tame Impala start to book more and more 2019 festival slots, including a groundbreaking headlining set at Coachella, all eyes are on Kevin Parker and co. to release some new music.

Now, in an interview with The Sunday Times, Parker has finally given us an update on the follow-up to 2015’s Currents.

Namely, the update is that he is not working on any sort of deadline for the new record, and he says that’s a good thing.

“I like to think that the album is its own thing,” he said.

“I wouldn’t want in 20 years to be listening to an album I made now and think that I finished it for any deadline or any particular reason. It was finished because it was finished.”

“Anticipation is good… I want to be the kind of artist that feels empowered by people waiting to hear what I’ve got,” he continued. “That’s the Gaga in me speaking.”

It’s likely that the project will drop this year, with optimism telling us we could expect new music before Parker’s Coachella set in April. One thing is for sure – Parker promises 2019 to be a “career defining” year for the band, and he’s taking a ‘the bigger the better’ approach.

“I’ve held back before because we’ve always tried to be understated, [but this is] kind of a license to not be that anymore,” he said.

“If that means having 100 lasers instead of six, so be it. Without giving too much away, I think that’s a given.”

In another interview with Seven West Media, Parker also recently addressed the loss of his gear to the California wildfires.
