Phil Lesh & Friends With John Scofield Conclude Terrapin Crossroads Run

179

Phil Lesh & Friends played the second of two shows at Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads venue in San Rafael, California on Thursday night. Lesh was again joined by John Scofield, Scott Metzger and Alex Koford on guitar, Jason Crosby on keyboards/violin and Tony Leone playing drums.

Lesh led the first set opening rendition of the Grateful Dead staple “Viola Lee Blues.” Koford then sang lead on “West L.A. Fadeaway,” followed by Metzger taking lead duties on “Mr. Charlie.” Metzger and Scofield traded licks during “Jack Straw” and the first set came to a close with “New Speedway Boogie” and “Ramble On Rose.”

Metzger was charged with leading the second set opening “Playing In The Band” which developed into a jam featuring more interplay between him and Scofield. Koford fronted the group on “Scarlet Begonias” and again after they worked their way into “Fire On The Mountain.” Lesh took command of his tender “Mountains On The Moon,” which came ahead of stretched-out offerings of “Estimated Prophet” and “The Wheel.” Phil’s Grateful Dead rarity “Unbroken Chain” brought the set to an end. Lesh’s standard organ donor plea came ahead of the encore that was made up of “China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider” and saw Crosby adding violin.
