On Friday night, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong returned to Asbury Park, NJ’s Paramount Theatre for their second performance of the weekend at the oceanside venue.
The quartet kicked off their first set with “Porcupine”, before running through extended takes on “Penguins”, “Funkijam”, and finally landed back into “Porcupine”. Greg Ormont took the vocal lead on “Fade Fast” next, highlighted by guitarist Jeremy Schon stealing the show with an electric solo. Funk-fueled takes on “Fun In Funk” and “Fox & Toad” followed, before the four-piece jumped into a cover of The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. “CWA” brought the rowdy first set to a close.
Following a brief break, Pigeons came back out to open their second set with “Walk Outside”. “Walk Outside” was followed by a hearty “Skipjack” sandwich, with “Paint It Black” tossed in the middle. Fan-favorites “Horizon” and “Bad For You” followed, before PPPP delivered a seamless segue of “Landing” into “Lightning”. The Ormont-led “Ocean Flows” off of 2017’s Pizazz brought the second set to a halt. “Whirled” served as the evening’s lone encore, leaving fans with plenty to be excited about for the band’s sold-out show tonight.
