Rodrigo y Gabriela shared a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Echoes” as a single off their upcoming new album Mettavolution. ATO Records will release the Mexican acoustic guitar duo’s album on April 26.
Rod and Gab’s last studio album was 2014’s 9 Dead Alive. The pair enlisted Dave Sardy to produce the seven tracks making up Mettavolution, which includes the 2018 single “Cumbé.” The guitarists shared the following regarding their choice to cover “Echoes”:
We are big Pink Floyd fans. That track, specially the live in Pompeii version means a lot to us, we even made a huge visual reference in our video for “Hanuman.” Besides that, the lyrics are even more relevant now than they were 45 years ago, the search for knowledge about ourselves, it’s becoming a key element for survival these days, that’s what evolution is all about at the end of the day.
Rodrigo y Gabriela will host a Facebook Live event today (Thursday, January 31) at 12 p.m. ET from their Lumbini Studio in Ixtapa on the Mexican Pacific Coast. Stream their cover of Pink Floyd’s “Echoes” below:
