Iconic blues guitarist Buddy Guy continued his residency at his Buddy Guy’s Legends venue in Chicago on Saturday night. Susan Tedeschi made her way over to Legends after the Tedeschi Trucks Band show at the Chicago Theatre to guest with her old friend for a portion of his set.
Tedeschi emerged about two-thirds of the way through Buddy’s 75-minute set. “Look what I found!” Guy exclaimed when Susan came on stage. The pair engaged in a stellar call-and-response segment during which time Susan said, “I learned it all from him.” Buddy then asked Tedeschi, “Where’s that fucking husband of yours?” in regards to Derek Trucks. Susan told Guy she left Derek on the bus and explained they have to leave town soon but Buddy is her hero so she couldn’t miss the opportunity to play with him.
Buddy went on to tell a story about Susan’s ex-boyfriend who Guy called “a mother-fucker” and told her to ditch. Tedeschi and Guy then dueted on John Hiatt’s “Feel Like Rain.” Susan became emotional and teared up as she sang with Buddy.
