ALO continued a tradition this past weekend with their annual Tour d’Amour visit to The Fillmore in San Francisco. Horseshoes and Hand Grenades opened on Friday night and later sat-in with ALO, while Tea Leaf Green did the same on Saturday. There was also a matinee for kids on Saturday afternoon.
The quartet opened with “The Ticket” on Friday and then fit “Spark” into “Blew Out The Walls.” After “Sugar On Your Tongue,” the members of Horseshoes & Hand Grenades emerged for a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone.” In the second set on Friday, ALO worked the Grateful Dead’s “Ship Of Fools” into “Try” and Simple Minds’ “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” within “BBQ.” Guitarist Roger Riedlbauer, who is part of Magic In The Other with ALO bassist Steve Adams and drummer Ezra Lipp added to “How Is This All Ending?” and “The Gardener” as part of the frame.
ALO kicked off Saturday night’s concert with the recently debuted “Got To Do It Again.” Then, guitarist Eddie Roberts emerged for “Cowboys & Chorus Girls.” Another memorable moment came when the band segued from their own “Speed Of Dreams” into “Just Like Heaven” by The Cure. The final set of the weekend opened with “Undertow” and included a “Shapeshifter” that incorporated parts of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” For the encore, ALO and Tea Leaf Green covered Neil Young’s “Rocking In The Free World” and performed the ALO original “Walls Of Jericho.” Current ALO drummer Ezra Lipp dedicated the latter to Dave Brogan, who is on hiatus from the band.
