The second weekend of ALO‘s Tour d’Amour XIII spanned February 13 – 16 in four different California cities. ALO played no repeats over the course of the four-show run, covered a Doobie Brothers tune each night and was joined by openers Horseshoes and Hand Grenades for a different cover at all four concerts.
ALO started the latest leg of the tour on Wednesday night at SLO Brew in San Luis Obispo. After opening with a run of “Pobrecito,” “Possibly Drown” and “Dead Still Dance,” the quartet covered the Doobie Brothers’ “It Keeps You Runnin’.” Later in the evening, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades emerged for a take on Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” as part of the one set performance. ALO closed out the night with an encore of “Country Camper” and “Simple Times.”
Thursday’s show took place at SOHO in the band’s hometown of Santa Barbara. This time around, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades emerged for a gorgeous rendition of “Heart Of Gold” by Neil Young. ALO kicked off the second set with the recently debuted original “Got To Do It Again” and went on to perform “Listen To The Music” as the evening’s Doobie Brothers cover. On Friday, the quartet gave fans a double dose of “walls” by opening with the pairing of “Blew Out The Walls” and “Walls Of Jericho” at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. A few songs later, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades came out to fill the stage for Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone.” The second set featured “What A Fool Believes” by The Doobie Brothers.
The second of three Tour d’Amour XIII weekends in February ended on Saturday night at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. After starting with “Ticket” and “Cowboys & Chorus Girls,” ALO offered up the new original “After The Rain.” The quartet welcomed Horseshoes & Hand Grenades a few songs later for a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Friend Of The Devil.” ALO began the second set with “Speed Of Dreams” and went on to insert “Tequila” into “Falling Dominoes,” “Harlem Nocturne” into “Shapeshifter” and “Reelin’ In The Years” into “Time Of The Essence.” The last Doobies cover of the weekend was “Long Train Running” featuring Davey Lynch of Horseshoes on harmonica.
Next up for ALO are three shows at The Fillmore in San Francisco this weekend.
