Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Debut New Original At 1st Of 3 In Mexico

168

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds kicked off their third annual destination event in Riviera Maya, Mexico on Friday. The longtime musical partners offered up a mix of setlist staples, deeper catalog cuts and a debut of a brand new song tentatively titled “The Clown” for their first of three headlining performances.

The duo kicked things off with longtime fan-favorite “Warehouse.” After a take on “Grey Street” the pair offered up “Virginia In The Rain,” playing the Come Tomorrow track for the first time together since last year’s Mexican getaway. Matthews and Reynolds would then work their way through beloved classics like “Grace Is Gone,” “Satellite” and “Lie In Our Graves.” The biggest surprise of the night came around the midway point of the night as they delivered the debut of “The Clown.” According to Twitter user @Copperpot5 the song is based on a poem by Anthony Lucero called “The Clown” and will likely be included in the upcoming movie Halo Of Stars, which Matthews has music writing credits.

Later in the set Brazilian wind-player Carlos Malta emerged as the trio teamed up on “Lying In The Hands Of God” and “What Would You Say.” The final stretch of the night included takes on “#41,” “Here On Out,” which Dave and Tim played for just the second time ever as a duo and “Two Step.” Matthews and Reynolds closed out their evening with a two-song encore serving up a cover of Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” for the first time together along with “Dancing Nancies.”
