Former Fleetwood Mac Guitarist Lindsey Buckingham Undergoes Open Heart Surgery

176

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham underwent emergency open heart surgery last week. The news was shared by Lindsey’s wife, Kristen who noted the surgery resulted in vocal cord damage. As for now, it is not known whether the damage to Lindsey’s vocal cords is permanent.

Lindsey was fired from Fleetwood Mac last year and the band went on tour without him. Mike Campbell and Neil Finn replaced Buckingham in the Fleetwood Mac lineup. The parting of the ways was said to be at the request of Stevie Nicks, who gave her band mates and management an ultimatum after she felt slighted by Lindsey’s behavior at a MusicCares event in New York City last January.

Kristen Buckingham’s statement mentions Lindsey “is now recuperating at home and each day he is stronger than the last.” She went on to discuss the tough year her family has gone through, “But despite all this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment. We feel so fortunate he’s alive. As does he. He looks forward to recovery and putting this all behind him.”

All future dates have been “put on pause” while Lindsey “gathers the strength to heal completely.” Read the full statement from Kristen Buckingham below:
