On February 24, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings will perform “When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings” as part of the 2019 Academy Awards. The folk duo is nominated for Best Original Song for their contribution to the Coen brothers’ film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
The pair has recorded their own take on the tune, which is sung by Tim Blake Nelson and Willie Watson in the six-part Western anthology. Additionally, Welch and Rawlings have confirmed that they will perform the song live on the February 16 episode of The Grand Ole Opry.
