Multi-instrumentalist Keller Williams celebrates his 49th birthday today. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native has been a mainstay of the jam scene since emerging in the early-1990s. Williams’ has occupied stages around the world both solo – often employing his signature looping technique – and with many other talented musicians in a variety of projects.
In addition to his solo efforts, there are currently 11 projects listed on the Keller Williams official website. Keller recruited local Richmond, Virginia musicians for his soulful R&B/funk outfit More Than A Little and he’s regularly performed with fellow Virginians Larry Keel and Jenny Keel as Keller & The Keels.
KW recently began teaming with The Hillbenders for PettyGrass bluegrass tributes to Tom Petty and he employs evolving lineups for his Grateful Dead tributes – Grateful Grass and Grateful Gospel. Keller’s KWahtro collective features Gibb Droll, Danton Boller and Rodney Holmes and Holmes was also part of Williams’ Trio with the late Rob Wasserman. Williams at times pairs with Boller for Duo shows. Droll, Keith Moseley and Jeff Sipe joined Williams in the WMDs and another bluegrass-focused project is Keller Williams With The Travelin’ McCourys.
Each of those projects, as well as Keller performing solo and one of his Kids originals, can be viewed in the videos below:
