Leftover Salmon Welcomes Taz, Skerik & More On Jam Cruise 17: Full Show Audio

157

Leftover Salmon was another band that embraced the Jam Cruise ethos by loading both of their sets with guest appearances. Soundboard recordings of both LoS sets from Jam Cruise 17 recently surfaced and can be streamed below.

Andy Frasco introduced Leftover Salmon in the theater on the first day of the trip. “I’d like to introduce a band … the most metal fucking bluegrass band you’ll ever meet in your goddamn lives, ladies and gentlemen. Gentlemen, get that pre-cum ready and ladies get those bras ready for Leftover Salmon,” Frasco said before joining the group for “Big Mamou.” LoS banjoist Andy Thorn had to miss the trip with a broken leg, so the group called upon old friend Matt Flinner to perform both sets with them. Salmon also welcomed guitarist Jon Stickley, saxophonist Skerik and guitarist Brandon “Taz” Niederauer to sit-in during the theater set. A highlight was Taz’s additions to “House Of Cards” and a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie.”

The Colorado-based act’s second set of the trip took place on the Pool Deck on January 18. A funny moment took place during “Southern Belle,” when Vince Herman and Flinner donned black wigs to imitate Khruangbin. Other guests who helped out on the Pool Deck were saxophonist Karl Denson, sacred steel specialist Roosevelt Collier, Stickley, fiddler Lyndsay Pruett, Frasco, Zebulon Bowles, Turkuaz vocalist Sammi Garett and original Salmonheads member Steve Burnside.
