The String Cheese Incident continued their 25th anniversary run on Saturday, closing out a three-night stand at Montbleu Resort Casino & Spa in Lake Tahoe. The jamgrass act welcomed keyboardist Melvin Seals and Dumpstaphunk bassist Tony Hall for their finale in The Silver State.
The String Cheese Incident kicked things off with the pairing of Vassar Clement’s “Lonesome Fiddle Blues” and “Can’t Wait Another Day” from their 2014 release Song In My Head. “Sweet Spot” and the bluegrass classic “High On A Mountain Top” came ahead of “45th Of November.” The track from One Step Closer was dusted off for the first time since December 30, 2017. The six-piece act reached “Come As You Are” next. The old-school tune, which was offered up for just the fourth time since 2017, began a seamless run that featured Talking Heads’ “Life During Wartime” and a set-closing take on Kyle Hollingsworth‘s “Rosie.”
The sextet was joined by Hall to start their second stanza as the bassist fronted the ensemble on the relatively new original “Get To You.” Weather Report instrumental “Birdland” was paired with the recently debuted “Into The Blue.” The back half of the frame featured takes on “Search,” “Sirens,” “Way Back Home” and “Bumpin’ Reel.” The String Cheese Incident offered up a two-song encore looking to “California Bluebird Sky” before being joined by Seals. The longtime Jerry Garcia Band keyboard player lent a hand on a show-closing take on “Deal,” which had sat unplayed since 2017. Watch fan-shot video below:
