Porsche Vows Half of Its New Luxury Vehicles Will Be Electric by 2025

The Porsche Taycan.

Porsche plans to electrify half of its fleet of high-performance vehicles in just six years.

The news accompanies an announcement from the German automaker stating that the next generation of the Macan will have an all-electric powertrain. The current model of the crossover SUV runs a 248-horsepower, turbocharged in-line four and seven-speed automatic transmission.

Porsche executive Oliver Blume said in a press release that “[by] 2025, 50% of all new Porsche vehicles could have an electric drive system,”

Porsche’s first-ever EV, the long-awaited and absolutely stunning Taycan sedan, is already scheduled to roll off assembly lines later this year. The next-gen Macan will share its Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform and 800-volt tech.

Based on this information, Car and Driver predicts that the Taycan and Macan’s performance will be similar as well.

Per C&D,

We know that the upcoming, first-gen Taycan—or at least one version of it—will have two electric motors producing 600 horsepower, a range of more than 300 miles, and a zero-to-60-mph time under 3.5 seconds.

If those specs carry through to the following generation, then the top-end Macan EV should match or get close to those numbers, too. But expect multiple lower-end variants to have less power and a shorter range than the “Turbo” equivalent.

Don’t fret, gearheads: Gas engines will still be included in Porsche’s future lineup.

“The next ten years we will focus on a drive mix consisting of even further optimised petrol engines, plug-in hybrid models, and purely electrically operated sports cars,” Blume added.

As long as they don’t ditch the Porsche 911’s flat six, we’re cool.
