Snarky Puppy Shares Colorful Music Video For New Single, ‘Bad Kids to the Back’ [Watch]

163

Snarky Puppy sent fans into the weekend on a colorful note, as the funky jazz collective shared the music video for “Bad Kids to the Back”, the second single from their forthcoming studio albumImmigrance. The New York-based band had previously released the album’s lead single, “Xavi”, to go with its initial announcement last month.

The new song was composed by the band’s trumpet player and keyboardist, Justin Stanton, and co-produced by Michael League alongside the rest of the group. The lively instrumental tune opens up hot and continues over 4:44 minutes with an abundance of horn lines and rhythmic intensity to keep the listener feel like they’re dancing on air from start to finish.

As good as the new single sounds, it’s really the song’s official video that will have fans buzzing into the musical abyss. Directed by Michaël Alcaras and Stella K, the video presents itself as nothing short of a visual masterpiece thanks to the implementation of flowing color schemes which spiral and flow like the perfect acid trip while the band keeps playing on. Whether it’s the band members themselves being turned into animation or wavy ethereal backgrounds coming into play, there’s no doubt that the addition of mesmerizing psychedelic visuals takes the listening experience to another level of consciousness, even if for just a few moments.

“After making so many videos over the years of the band playing live, I wanted to do something different with this one without abandoning the thread we’ve had running for so long,” League said in a statement to Rolling Stone about their musical and visual masterpiece. “I remember seeing ‘Waking Life in college and thinking how much I’d love to rotoscope a live performance. ‘Bad Kids to the Back’ was perfect for this, especially considering the triple drum solo at the end. I encouraged Michaël to go as far as he wanted to in terms of making the video trippy/left of center, and I loved seeing what he came up with.”
