Steve Earle and The Dukes shared their cover of Guy Clark’s “L.A. Freeway.” The track is the latest single from the group’s upcoming tribute album GUY, which comes out on New West Records on March 29.
Clark, who died in 2016 at the age of 74, wrote each of the 16 songs on GUY. The record finds Steve Earle backed by The Dukes, comprised of bassist Kelley Looney, guitarist Chris Masterson, fiddler/mandolinist Eleanor Whitmore, pedal steel guitarist Ricky Ray Jackson and drummer Brad Pemberton. Guests on the album include prior Clark collaborators Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Terry Allen, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mickey Raphael, Shawn Camp, Verlon Thompson, Gary Nicholson and others. Earle previously released Townes in honor of his other primary songwriting mentor, Townes Van Zandt.
