The Disco Biscuits Deliver Rarities At Second Night Of Capitol Theatre Run [Video]

163

On Friday, The Disco Biscuits returned to The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY for the second show of their three-night weekend run.

Following a rowdy Thursday night show, the band opened their first set on Friday with “Little Lai”, played for only the third time since 2015. Marc Brownstein and Allen Aucoin locked into a tight groove-pocket out of the gates, as Jon “Barber” Gutwillig laid down some explosive guitar work behind his ferocious rhythm section. The quartet smoothly worked their way into “Oname Wa”, last played during the bands 2015 Syracuse Halloween run, a gap of 118 shows. The Disco Biscuits charged forward with a crowd-pleasing take on “Little Betty Boop”, before delivering a set-closing “Spaga” sandwich, with “Abraxax” tossed in the middle of the mix. The first segment of last night’s “Spaga” journey included a tease of Billy Joel’s “The Stranger”. It’s noteworthy to mention that during portions of last night’s first set, Barber was playing what appeared to be a blonde Languedoc guitar, crafted by Trey Anastasio’s luthier and former Phish sound engineer, Paul Languedoc.

Last night’s second set was one enormous seamless-segue, as the band started it off with “King of the World” into “We Like To Party”, both song’s left unfinished. The latter was played for only the fifth time since 2011, and was followed by another rarity with “Shadow”, played for only the 12th time ever, and the first since July of 2015. The Disco Biscuits brought the heat to The Cap last night, as Barber tore up a number of tunes that rarely get attention in the band’s live setting. The four-piece let it all hang out with a monstrous set-closing “Caterpillar” sandwich, with some “Bombs” dropped in the middle of the masterfully crafted segue. The fan-favorite “Home Again” served as Friday night’s encore, leaving fans with high hopes and expectations for the band’s third and final show of their Capitol Theatre run tonight.
