On Saturday night, Twiddle finished their three-night run across Texas with a performance at Antone’s in Austin, Texas. Supported by The Hip Abduction, Twiddle offered up a notable performance featuring sit-ins from members of the opening act as well as the debut of a mashup of originals, “Jamflowman” and “Carter Candlestick.”
The show opened with “Orlando’s,” off the band’s Plump, Vol. 2, before moving into the group’s fan-favorite cover of “Rocky Raccoon.” The Beatles cover also marked the first sit-in of the night, with The Hip Abduction’s keyboardist and saxophone player, Cody Moore, joining in for the tune. After a reprise of “Orlando’s,” Twiddle drew from their older catalog for a debut mashup, reinventing “Jamflowman” and “Carter Candlestick”. By way of an energetic rendition of “Zazu’s Flight,” the band finished out the first frame with a return to “Jamflowman,” which featured teases of Eric Clapton’s “Layla.”
To start the second set, Twiddle offered up “Dr. Remidi’s Melodium,” which featured a standout solo from bassist Zdenek Gubb. An extended “Amydst The Myst” prefaced “Daydream Farmer,” a favorite off 2011’s Somewhere On The Mountain. An energized cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Dyer Maker” began the end of the second frame, with the band closing out the set in full with a pairing of originals, “Wasabi Farmer” into “The Box.”
For the group’s encore, Twiddle returned with their most famous coupling of songs. After the heartfelt “Hattie’s Jam,” the band welcomed their second guest of the evening, The Hip Abduction’s guitarist and vocalist, Justino Walker, for the show’s optimistic and buoyant closing number, “When It Rains It Pours.”
