On March 29, White Denim will release a new album, Side Effects, via City Slang. The Austin-based quartet has released a third single, “Reversed Mirror,” off the record to preview the forthcoming effort.
“Reversed Mirror” follows up Side Effects‘ first two singles, “Shanalala” and “NY Money,” both of which were released at the end of January. These three tunes highlight the psychedelic rock act’s immense range, giving fans a taste of the full spectrum of styles the band can take on. With “Reversed Mirror,” White Denim offers a hypnotizing and complex composition, contrasting the guitar’s frenetic lead with a spacious and laidback bridge.
As guitarist and vocalist James Petralli explained, “We are interested in reframing ideas and presenting them in new ways. ‘Mirrored in Reverse’ from Fits was a live staple for us for many years. We would improvise on the intro for a few minutes each night. Lots of ideas came out of those improvisations. Steve [Terebecki] and I mashed a bunch of them together for this version.” Stream “Reversed Mirror” below:
