Calexico & Iron & Wine Announce New Album ‘Years To Burn’ & Tour

139

Iron & Wine and Calexico will release their debut full-length collaborative album Years to Burn on June 14 via Sub Pop and City Slang. Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam and Calexico’s Joey Burns and John Convertino shared the LP’s lead single, “Father Mountain,” and announced a world tour in support.

The LP was recorded and produced by Matt Ross-Spang at Sound Emporium in Nashville over the course of five days and comes nearly 14 years after their original release together, the EP In The Reins. The new eight-song effort features tunes written by Beam, Burns and Convertino and sees them backed by Calexico’s Jacob Valenzuela (trumpet) and Paul Niehaus (pedal steel) along with Rob Burger (Tin Hat Trio) on piano and bassist Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coughing, Fiona Apple).

“This project had to find the right time,” Covertino stated. “We’re all different people than we were in 2004, and music helps to bridge some of the gaps. For all the things going on in our world and in each of our lives, this connection, this friendship, this love that we have—this album is a vehicle for that bond. It’s a chance to see where we’re at, take stock and be there for our friends.”

Iron & Wine and Calexico announced an initial batch of tour dates in support of the record that mixes headlining shows and festival appearances. Additional shows are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. Give a listen to “Father Mountain” below:
