Guitarist Cory Wong served as a member of the Live From Here house band this past Saturday during their broadcast from The Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul. The local musician got a chance to play one of his original instrumental compositions during the episode that was guest-hosted by Jon Batiste.
Wong led the ensemble that featured Batiste, Mike Elizondo, Jeff Babko, Brittany Haas, Jon Lampley, Trevor Lawrence Jr. and Tivon Pennicott through a take on “Simon” from his 2016 release MSP (Part 1). Watch Wong & Co.’s performance below:
Wong also participated in an intermission performance of the instrumental “Topsy ’65,” which drummer Hal Blaine, who recently died at the age of 90, recorded on his 1966 album, Drums! Drums! A Go Go. Watch the band play “Topsy ’65” here:
